Yamuna Satyagraha completes 365 days

Despite an apparent lack of interest among the citizenry of Delhi, committed activists led by waterman Rajendra Singh have been sitting in protest in the Indian capital for the past 365 days. Saving the Yamuna river from the ongoing construction of Commonwealth Games Village is their mission.

Motorists on National Highway-24 connecting Delhi with Ghaziabad often marvel at the frenetic construction work underway at the Commonwealth Games Village facing the Akshardham Temple on the eastern bank of Yamuna.

But few have noticed one of the longest-running environmental campaigns in Delhi, at a corner next to a smelling storm-water drain right outside the Village.

Known as, "The Yamuna Satyagraha", as the campaign is called, completed 365 weather-beaten days on Wednesday.

Under the Bamboo chhappar at the protest site, hang a few handwritten posters handed to kids from the nearby school on yamuna floodland. Rajender singh ji was sitting Close by a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi.

The campaign was launched to “save the oldest and most vital water resource of Delhi”, which environmentalists feel face grave threat to its survival from the construction work on the river's bed.

On Wednesday, well-wishers from all over india came over to commemorate the day. But on any given day, there are only a few protestors at the site, led by Master Baljitsingh ji holding together the fight for something so intrinsic to Delhi's sustenance.

These “water warriors”, as they call themselves, have been living out of the tent, playing host to mosquitoes at night and silently watching Delhi zoom by on the busy highway.

On this day, there was "Havan" by all supporters and like minded people. After that school kids planted trees in floodland, folowed by 'Lalit sharma, Ankita sharma, Amal sharma, Kuldeep gupta, chandan swaroop & Harinder nagar' the young satyagrahis. Mr. Ramesh sharma from Gandhi peace foundation, Mr. Diwan singh ji from National heritage first, Mr. Rajender singh ji Jal biradari also planted plants.

The decision was taken to fight with more power and with the new inflow of satyagrahis, Miss. Madhu kishwer, Mr. Roopchand nagar, Moulana ji , Mr. Sanjay sharma from Bharat punarninman dal & others.

10 Tips

There are many health risks associated with a sedentary lifestyle we often feel overwhelmed with the mere thought of exercise, even though we know the benefits are plentiful. Not only is exercise good for your health but it is also good for your mind and overall sense of well being. So now is the perfect time to commit you to developing new personal fitness goals. So every year you tell yourself that this will be your year to get fit. Then, within three weeks into January you are back to your old pre-New Year's Resolution habits.

Here are some tips for making exercise a permanent part of your lifestyle:

1. Commit yourself.
Get moving! Just do it! There is no time like today, so why not get started now? Sit down and develop your plan of action and stick with it. You really do owe it to yourself and your family.

2. Set your goals.
Set goals, both short-term and long-term goals, and allow yourself rewards for meeting them. For example, you could set a short-term goal to exercise 3-4 times a week for 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise and 30 minutes of strength training. Your long-term goal could be to lose weight or lower your cholesterol level. A sample reward could be that for every four weeks that you meet your goals you could get a massage, a new piece of clothing, a movie, or an evening without the kids.

3. Abandon an all-or-nothing attitude.
Don't think of exercise with an all-or-nothing approach. If you don't get to exercise as planned, that's okay, just get back on track tomorrow. Set realistic exercise goals but understand that some weeks you will meet your goals and other weeks you won't. If you don't reach your goals do what you can. Just keep moving and you will feel much happier. You don't want to give up on your exercise program since it is such a great way to help relieve stress!

4. Don't overdo it.
It is very common for people to try to exercise every day once they start an exercise program. However, this can often lead to exercise burnout and may lead to discontinuing exercise altogether. Therefore, you should set goals, which will enable you to improve your fitness level without overdoing it.

5. Be efficient
Make sure that you are working out at a good intensity level for you. Find out your target heart rate range and aim for the upper end of it. Make sure you break a sweat. Also, the higher the intensity level, the more total calories you burn per minute of exercise. However, you do not want to work out so hard that you can only exercise for a short period of time. Your goal should be 3-4 times per week for 30-45 minutes of continuous aerobic activity. At first, you might need to take a few breaks but as you become more fit you will be able to exercise for longer periods of time.

6. Schedule it.
It's so easy to get overwhelmed at work and skip your workout. One solution is to treat your workout like a business meeting. Write it in your planner and keep the appointment. After all, you will perform better at work if you are taking care of yourself.

7. Make exercise easy.
It is very important to recognize your own barriers to exercise. Do you have trouble getting to the gym if you go home first? Do you always hit the snooze button when you plan to workout in the morning? Do you ever forget your gym clothes? Once you identify your barriers to exercise it is imperative that you try to reduce or eliminate them. Pack your gym bag the night before or keep a few extra sets of gym clothes in your car or at work. Go straight to the gym after work if you tend to have difficulty going once at home.

8. Get adventurous.
Try a new activity every month to avoid boredom. This will also add more variety to your fitness routine. Fitness can be a lot of fun, so think of new ways to add it to your life. Some ideas are kayaking, tennis, hiking, biking, or Family Olympics. Look on the Internet for local hiking or biking trails in your area. If you are a member at a local gym, ask them to show you how to use that piece of equipment that you have been eyeing in the gym but you are not sure how to use.

9. Do it at home.
Can't make it to the gym? Well, that's no excuse! Go to the local sports store or discount store (e.g. Target or Wal-Mart) and purchase some dumbbells according to your level of fitness. Start out with a set of 3 and 5 pound weights.

10. Enlist an exercise buddy.
It always helps to exercise with a friend since you can help motivate each other on those "I don't want to exercise" days.

The History of Saint Valentine's Day.

The History of Saint Valentine's DayValentine's Day started in the time of the Roman Empire.
IIn ancient rome,
February 14th was a holiday to honour Juno. Juno was the Queen of the Roman Gods and Goddesses. The Romans also knew her as the Goddess of women and marriage. The following day, February 15th, began the Feast of Lupercalia.

The lives of young boys and girls were strictly separate. However, one of the customs of the young people was name drawing. On the eve of the festival of Lupercalia the names of Roman girls were written on slips of paper and placed into jars.

Each young man would draw a girl's name from the jar and would then be partners for the duration of the festival with the girl whom he chose. Sometimes the pairing of the children lasted an entire year, and often, they would fall in love and would later marry.

Under the rule of Emperor Claudius II
Rome was involved in many bloody and unpopular campaigns.Claudius the Cruel was having a difficult time getting soldiers to join his military leagues. He believed that the reason was that roman men did not want to leave their loves or families.

As a result,
Claudius cancelled all marriages and engagements in Rome. The good Saint Valentine was a priest at Rome in the days of Claudius II. He and Saint Marius aided the Christian martyrs and secretly married couples, and for this kind deed Saint Valentine was apprehended and dragged before the Prefect of Rome, who condemned him to be beaten to death with clubs and to have his head cut off .

He suffered martyrdom on the 14th day of February, about the year 270. At that time it was the custom in Rome, a very ancient custom, indeed, to celebrate in the month of February the Lupercalia, feasts in honour of a heathen god. On these occasions, amidst a variety of pagan ceremonies, the names of young women were placed in a box, from which they were drawn by the men as chance directed.

The pastors of the early Christian Church in Rome endeavoured to do away with the pagan element in these feasts by substituting the names of saints for those of maidens. And as the Lupercalia began about the middle of February, the pastors appear to have chosen Saint Valentine's Day for the celebration of this new feaSt. So it seems that the custom of young men choosing maidens for valentines, or saints as patrons for the coming year, arose in this way.

After that we young girls and boys in whole world start celebrating velentine day(Lovers day) on 14th Feb ebvery year.

Wish you all a happy valentine day to you all .
Now you know how velantine day was born and started.

NAIL IN THE FENCE

There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His Father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence. The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence.
Finally !
the day came when the boy didn't lose his temper at all. He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper. The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone. The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence.
He said, "You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won't matter how many times you say "I'm sorry", the wound is still there. A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one".
Friends are very rare jewels, indeed.
They make you smile and encourage you to succeed.
They lend an ear,
they share words of praise and they always want to open their hearts to us.
Please forgive me if I have ever left a hole.

2 Frogs

A group of frogs were traveling through the woods, and two of them fell into a deep pit. When the other frogs saw how deep the pit was, they told the two frogs that they were as good as dead. The two frogs ignored the comments and tried to jump up out of the pit with all their might. The other frogs kept telling them to stop, that they were as good as dead.
Finally,
One of the frogs took heed to what the other frogs were saying and gave up. He fell down and died.
The other frog continued to jump as hard as he could. Once again, the crowd of frogs yelled at him to stop the pain and just die. He jumped even harder and finally made it out.

When he got out, the other frogs said, "Did you not hear us?"
The frog explained to them that he was deaf. He thought they were encouraging him the entire time.
This story teaches two lessons:
1. There is power of life and death in the tongue. An encouraging word to someone who is down can lift them up and help them make it through the day.

2. A destructive word to someone who is down can be what it takes to kill them.Be careful of what you say. Speak life to those who cross your path. The power of words... it is sometimes hard to understand that an encouraging word can go such a long way. Anyone can speak words that tend to rob another of the spirit to continue in difficult times. Special is the individual who will take the time to encourage another.
